George Kiby Jr. to tour in Europe fall 2007

Grammy-nominated artist George Kilby Jr. has taken his music from the road-houses of the Southeast to the major music festivals of Europe. His sound has been called everything from New Orleans R&B to Alternative Country. Born in Alabama, and residing in New York, Kilby's band is one of the top acts in the Northeast; and has backed the legendary Pinetop Perkins for more than a decade.

Born and raised in Anniston Alabama, George’s earliest musical memory is listening to his uncle play Hank Williams songs on the porch. As a teenager, he listened to the Allman Brothers and the country music of Willie and Waylon.

At Princeton University, he led his first group, the George Dickel Band band, to New York’s legendary Lonestar Cafe. There, he played countless country bills, but also shared the stage with Albert King, Etta James and James Brown.

Before long, the blues became George's passion. He traveled to support his first LP all over the Eastern US. As a result, he met the Legendary Pinetop Perkins and lived with his family in Chicago in 1985.  Then, after a couple of years as busker in Paris, he returned to the states. He recruited Pinetop along with R&B legend Rosco Gordon and began a CD titled “George Jr. and his Elders.”

New Orleans drummer Charles "Honeyboy" Otis gave the disc a spicy flavor which continues to be part of Kilby’s sound today. By a strange twist of fate, George landed a roadie gig for The Beach Boys, so the CD was cut in L.A. and released in New York on Pipeliner Records.

The disc, Pinetop Perkins and Friends was the first to establish Pinetop as a touring act.  This led to a deal with Omega / Vanguard Records. While at the label, Kilby produced Pinetop’s seminal Portrait of a Delta Bluesman, which won the  W.C. Handy Award, Blues Album of the Year. Kilby’s third effort with Pinetop, Live at 85 (Shanachie), features his band, the Coolerators, in an exciting live setting.

His current record, 'Road Dog's Holiday' harkens back to his Alabama roots. Nevertheless, he makes his home in the Big Apple and in the nearby Catskill mountains. He is a fixture on Manhattan's downtown roots music scene and can regularly be seen at BB Kings, The Bottom Line, & The Turning Point.

New York City guitarist, Jonathan Kreisberg, recently returned from a tour of Denmark, where he received glowing reviews from the press.

Critics in the US are equally enthusiastic:

After six years in New York City, Soren Moller is gaining a reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the top ranks of the New York jazz scene.

It has been quite a year for Danish pianist, Soren Moller. Residing in New York City for the past six years, he has seen his CD, Nordic Disruption, with the NYNDK Jazz Collective, make it onto the American top 40 jazz radio charts. His chart success has led him to headliner gigs at prominent NYC venues, including the prestigious Jazz At Lincoln Center. Drummer Antonio Sanchez, took time off from his work with guitar legend Pat Metheny to join Moller for a tour of his native Denmark. Sanchez is also the guest star of Moller’s new CD release A Tribute To Trane. Spring 2008 will see Soren Moller at the Harare International Festival For The Arts in Zimbabwe, performing with singer-songwriter Oliver Mtukudzi and the Max Wild African Synergy Band, a new project signed to the World Music label Obliq Sound.

After composing his big band suite Three Speeches, a suite that was premiered by Kluvers Big Band at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Moller felt it was time to return to his duo work with American saxophone player extraordinaire Dick Oatts. Dick Oatts is the re-knowned lead alto saxophonist of the Thad Jones/ Mel Lewis Big Band, now the Village Vanguard Orchestra. Oatts joined the band on Thad Jones’ request at the age of sixteen, making the move from Iowa to New York City. His work also includes touring with trumpet legend, Red Rodney, and bassist Eddie Gomez to name a few.
Dick Oatts and Soren Moller met while Moller was working towards his Masters of Music degree at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music as a Fulbright Scholar. In New York City Moller quickly earned a reputation as a notable piano talent and bandleader, as he founded an ensemble of the most talented performers from Manhattan School of Music and won an audition to perform at the world famous Carnegie Hall.

Soren Moller and Dick Oatts released their highly acclaimed CD, Storytelling, in 2005. They will be touring in Scandinavia from November 15th through November 25th.

Kim Bock SteepleChase leadership debut showcases tenor saxophonist Kim Bock’s enormous talent. He has established himself in New York jazz scene since 2000 after completing his studies in Boston and Florida. Kim Bock has been featured in Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau Band.
